Winzergenossenschaft Jechtingen-Amoltern is located on the western Kaiserstuhl, not far from the Rhine in the warm south of beautiful Baden.
340, 130, 240 - vintners, families, hectares
30 Jechtingen vintners founded the winery in 1924 and initially stored the wines in their private cellars. A few decades later, in 1962, a new winery was built on the outskirts of Jechtingen. Here the work could be better coordinated and the estate was repeatedly expanded and also modernized. Another milestone in the history of the winegrowers' cooperative came in 2011, when they merged with the Amoltern winegrowers' cooperative. Hence the name Jechtingen-Amolternam Kaisterstuhl e.G. Since then, a total of 340 winegrowers from 130 winegrowing families have been cultivating more than 240 hectares of vines.
A gift of an exceptional grape variety
The trademark of the Jechtingen-Amoltern winegrowers' cooperative is the over 700-year-old Sponeck Castle with its romantic face. It was here that the original grape variety "Sponeck 21" was rediscovered in 1939. It was considered extinct in the meantime, but even after the destruction in the Second World War, some vines could still be discovered and saved. Today, the grape variety "Sponeck 21" is cultivated in the vineyard directly at the castle.
Full body thanks to volcano, loess and clay
All the vines of the Jechtingen-Amoltern winegrowers' cooperative grow on sun-drenched terraces and vineyards nestled on volcanic slopes. The warm Baden climate and the volcanic weathered soils with their fertile layers of loess or clay provide wines with excellent body as well as Mediterranean temperament. Every year, no less than two million liters of top red and white wines are produced.
