Studier Winery - Tasting is more important than STUDYING

Not far from Mannheim in Ellerstadt is the home of the Studier Winery. The estate is managed by Reinhard and Sibylle Studier. The estate has various vineyards with different soils and microclimatic conditions, which allows for a variety of wines with different characteristics. In the cellar, both modern technology and classic barrel aging are used to do individual justice to each wine.

Ellerstadt in the wine-growing region Palatinate

Today, the Palatinate is known to most as a wine region. On more than 23,600 hectares of cultivated land, the local winegrowers grow their wines here. It is the second largest wine region in Germany and can please wine connoisseurs with the wine varieties Silvaner, Kerner, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder and Portugieser. With a share of 40 % red grapes growing in the vineyards here, the Pfalz wine region is also the largest red wine region in Germany. The Studier winery can also be found in this wine region. The entire wine region goes from southern Worms down to the border with France. The Palatinate Forest and the Rhine Plain border the area to the east and west. On marl soils, granite, mottled sandstone, porphyry, clay and loam soils the grapes grow there. Here they are climatically spoiled with a high percentage of sunny days and an average temperature of 11 degrees. One of the highlights of the wine region is the German Wine Route for tourists. It has existed since 1935 and with 85 kilometers it is the oldest tourist route of this kind. The Palatinate wine region is also at the forefront when it comes to celebrating its wine. The wine festival season starts already in spring and the last wine festivals take place until November. During these festivals, you can certainly enjoy a good drop of wine from the Studier Winery while enjoying a variety of culinary delights and exuberant folk festival atmosphere.
