White winedryItalyTrentino-Alto Adige (IT)Alto Adige /Südtirol DOC (IT)
In the midst of the Alps, in the Adige Valley, Peter Zemmer is a winery with a steep success story. Come with us on a journey through natural vineyards, Burgundy in South Tyrol and the authentic wine of Peter Zemmer.
Culture and nature, tradition and innovation, respect and development
In a wine country whose tradition reaches far back into the time before the Roman emperors, wine, culture and art are closely linked. South Tyrol has thus been shaped by countless generations of winegrowers as a land of wine.
For almost a century, viticulture has been part of the history of the Zemmer family and the enthusiasm for wine is firmly rooted in the hearts of the third generation as well.
Typical wines from the mountains of the Peter Zemmer Winery
Since 1928, the Zemmer family has dedicated itself intensively and passionately to the cultivation and development of quality wines typical of the region. Peter Zemmer presses natural wines that excellently reflect their character of origin and expressively unite the special features of a unique terrain.
Steep wines with character
Sloping hillsides, loose rocky soils, cold, clear water from mountain streams - there is alpine character in the terroir that the Peter Zemmer winery works with. The sites around Kurtinig an der Weinstraße are located in the hilly Adige Valley, flanked by mighty mountains whose boulders have formed a multi-layered soil. Dolomite and limestone with deposits of sand, clay and gravel provide loose and permeable subsoil on which the vines take deep roots. The climate is alpine, but mild and quite friendly with 1,800 hours of sunshine. Scattered rain showers blanket the steep vineyards, which experience violent temperature differences between day and night. The Ora wind from Lake Garda blows dry and cold breezes over the vines, so that rot hardly stands a chance.
If some grapes do not meet the high standards of Peter Zemmer, they are sorted out during the manual harvest. The strict selection of the grapes guarantees the best basis for further vinification. Gentle pressing, storage on the fine lees and care in every step of the process ensure that balanced and characterful red and white wines mature in the small and large French wooden barrels.
Grape Varieties
Both white and red grape varieties enjoy the wonderful climate in the middle of the Alps and develop into authentic wines that convey the land and its facets. Among them:
Pinot Gris
Chardonnay
Gewürztraminer
Pinot Blanc
Müller-Thurgau
Sauvignon Blanc
Riesling
Pinot Noir
Lagrein
Vernatsch
Peter Zemmer's strongest helper - nature
The traditional family winery Peter Zemmer has been measured for years by the quality of its wines - this has not changed since the founding by the great uncle Peter Zemmer. Just as little changed nature, the source of the exquisite fruits from which the winery presses wine. It is therefore hardly surprising that Peter Zemmer has high regard for the nature of the South Tyrolean lowlands and also wants to protect it with all means. The responsible and nature-loving cultivation is supported by sustainable measures. For example, the entire estate is powered by solar energy - pollution-free, quiet, efficient. The vineyards resemble a garden that radiates colorful biodiversity and provides a habitat for animals and insects. A charitable symbiosis, because thanks to the busy little helpers, pest control is easy. Nature knows how to unfold, help and create fabulous wine - with a little help from passionate winemaking from Peter Zemmer Winery.
