Hessian State Winery Eberbach Monastery - Winegrowing for 900 Years
Eberbach Monastery has a long history as a winery. Founded in the Middle Ages by the Cistercians from Clairvaux, the monastery quickly advanced to become the order's most successful abbey on the right bank of the Rhine. The history of the monastery is long and every caesura that has been of relevance in Central Europe since the High Middle Ages has left its mark on the monastery - from the Peasants' Wars, to the Thirty Years' War, to Napoleon and the tragedies of the 20th century. Since 1945, the monastery has been owned by the state of Hesse, which has since managed the monastery's own vineyards and domains.
Eberbach Monastery - Vineyards along the Hessian Wine Route
Eberbach Mon astery now cultivates over 200 hectares of vineyards along the most beautiful terroirs from the Hessian Bergstrasse to Assmannshausen. The main grapes grown there are
Riesling,
Pinot Blanc and
Pinot Noir
The rocks differ greatly, which gives the wines from the Ebersbach monastery a variety of nuances.
In addition, this winery belongs to the Association of German Prädikat and Quality Wineries. The Eberbach State Winery owns, among other things, parcels in the
wiesbadener Neroberg and Rauenthaler Baiken and the large
and the great VDP sites Erbacher Marcobrunn and Assmannshäuser Hollenberg
