The Vintage Port of Niepoort is an excellent, outstanding port wine from Sousão, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional and other red Portuguese grape varieties.
The glass shows a strong opaque violet with a black core. The intense bouquet reveals wonderful aromas of full berry fruit, cassis and floral notes of violet. This is accompanied by hints of dried figs, liquorice and freshly ground white pepper. On the palate, this port wine is wonderfully concentrated with a fantastic acidity structure and firm, compact tannin. The finale comes with an incredible length and floral accents.
Vinification of PortVintage Niepoort The grapes for this port wine are harvested
manually. The harvest took place in September. The grapes harvested at the beginning of September have a higher acidity - the grapes harvested in the second half of September have a higher ripeness. This gives this port its wonderful concentration, finesse and elegance.
In the Vale de Mendiz wine cellar, the harvested goods (without destemming) are foot tamped in granite warehouses using a traditional method. Over the winter, this wine is now stored in oak barrels (Tonéis) in the Douro Valley. In April, the barrels are brought to Vila Nova de Gaia and the final blend matures for a total of 2 years in oak barrels and wood fodder.
Food recommendation for Niepoort Vintage
This port wine goes wonderfully with blue mold, precious mushroom and strong hard cheese (matured Manchego), fruits and desserts. And always remember: vintage port wine should be decanted!
