In honor of the Basques
Los Vascos is a Chilean winery owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1988. Los V ascos translates as "The Basques." However, the Rotschild family did not immediately choose this estate, but researched the potential of local wines, tasted many wines and the terroirs with their characteristics were visited.
The choice for Los Vascos
Because of the location near the sea, the exceptional soil, the ideal weather conditions (intense sunlight - low risk of frost) and the sufficient water sources, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) chose the estate Vinas Los V ascos in Chile.
Everything on New
Very extensive investments were made under the supervision of the technical director of Château Lafite Rothschild. Among other things
Restructuring of the winery
New planting program
Deliberate reduction of yields
Safeguarding of water resources
Gradually, the Los Vascos winery has been expanded and modernized. This is the only way to meet the new requirements for vinification and aging. Most recently, the guest house was built in traditional Chilean style to welcome visitors to the Los V ascos estate.
Los Vascos today
All the research, modernization and investment have paid off. Because Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) had the right intuition that Los V ascos had the potential to produce fine wines. The unique terroir gives the wines their character. The pursuit of excellence also requires passion and time - and this is what Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) is very happy to spend.
