Villa di Corlo was founded at the end of the 16th century and is located in the nearby Modena area.
Winery Villa di Corlo - with progress to success
The winery has been owned by the Munari family for well over a century. The boss today is Maria Antonietta Murani. Since the founding of Azienda Agricola Villa di Corlo in 1998, she has given her wines their own identity and distinct characteristics. She also decided from the beginning to use only Lambrusco grapes from her own vineyards, and from a very early stage, she opted for an innovative and environmentally conscious cellar technique. The winery was built in accordance with the rural characteristics of the area and is equipped with the most technologically advanced equipment for the processing of sparkling wines. They comply with the highest environmental and conservation requirements.
The wine production at Villa di Corlo
The Azienda Agricola Villa di Corlo has a total of 100 hectares of land. 25 of them are used for organic viticulture. In the vineyards, 320 meters above sea level, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and their various derivatives are cultivated. The grapes benefit from a southeast to east exposure and are grown using the Guyot system. The microclimate helps not only in the maturation of the vines, but also in the characterization of the wine.
A special way of vinification
In order to develop a balance between bouquet and taste in a Lambrusco, intensive cooling of the grapes is necessary during the fermentation of the must and the further processing steps in the vinification. It allows the fermentation process to almost completely eliminate the need for additional sulfur addition (sulfites). The large amount of energy required for this is supplied by solar collectors, which have been erected throughout the vineyards.
Cold maceration allows the Villa di Corlo winery to produce a wine that brings out all the flavors and aromas of the grapes. The wines are also pleasant on the palate and reveal the pure pleasure. The Lambrusco of Villa di Corlo thus show themselves in an unmistakably perfect quality that has nothing to do with the 'industrial' Lambrusco!
Villa di Corlo protects its environment
Energy saving and low emissions are extremely important for the Villa di Corlo winery. In 2012, the company decided to invest in the production of energy from renewable photovoltaic sources, thus reducing their emissions of greenhouse gases. In doing so, it also wanted to simultaneously present itself more attractive to markets whose clientele places high value on environmental protection. The investment in energy production from renewable sources in Villa di Corlo, has reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 105 tons per year. Calculated over the 25 years, this amounts to a saving of approximately 2,625 tons of emissions. This is equivalent to the value of about 40 families. Villa di Corlo thus also wants to be a beacon for other wineries in the region.
