The Villa Antinori Rosso Toscana IGT by Marchesi Antinori shines intensely ruby red in the glass. A complex bouquet unfolds on the nose with distinct, appealing aromas of red fruit, ripe plums, juicy cherries and berries, framed by spice notes, vanilla, peppermint and hints of boxwood. Soft, velvety tannins, harmonious texture delight the palate and conclude in a long, tasty final.
Vinification of Villa Antinori Rosso Tuscany by Marchesi Antinori
Tuscan and international grape varieties are vinified for this Rosso Toscana IGT: Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The grapes are harvested individually, depending on the degree of ripeness of the grapes, the last to be harvested are Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. After destemming and gentle pressing, alcoholic fermentation and maceration of the individual grapes follow at a controlled temperature in order to promote the extraction of the dyes, the soft tannins at Cabernet, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot, and the aromas at Syrah and Merlot. After malolactic fermentation in October and November, the wine is transformed into French, American and Hungarian oak barriques and aged for about a year. The cuvée then rests in the bottles for about half a year before the wine is sold.
Marchese Niccolò Antinori, the father of Piero Antinori, first produced the red Villa Antinori in 1928. Piero Antinori developed the Villa Antinori further in 2001 when he became Toscana IGT, produced from the best grape selections exclusively from the Tuscan goods in his own possession. As a historic wine of Marchesi Antinori, the design of the label has remained unchanged since 1928; it has only been slightly revised over time.
