 Location and structure of Veneto

Veneto is located in the northeast of Italy. In the southeast the region borders on the northern Adriatic Sea with the famous tourist center of Venice. In the northeast the region Friuli Venezia Giulia joins. After a short border from Veneto to Austria, the region Trentino-South Tyrol follows in the northwest, Lombardy in the west and Emilia Romagna in the south.

Politically, Veneto is divided into the seven provinces of Belluno, Padua, Rovigo, Treviso, Venice, Verona and Vicenza. The geographical division, which is important for viticulture, includes the Dolomites, which are part of the Alps, and the Venetian Alpine foothills in the north, the wide Po Valley, a vast hilly landscape, the Adriatic coast in the east and the area in front of Lake Garda in the west.

Wines from Veneto

The geographical diversity of Veneto ensures a high density of DOC and DOCG areas with an independent character, often in close proximity to each other. In the stony sandy soil of Lake Garda, the red varieties Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Molinara find ideal growing conditions for the Bardolino.

On the tufa soils in Verona, the white varieties Garganega, Trebbiano di Soave and Chardonnay can develop optimally for the Soave wine. The most important variety is Garganega, with a minimum percentage of 70% prescribed for Soave. Trebbiano di Soave and/or Chardonnay may account for 0 to 30%. In between lies the Valpolicella wine region, where great red wines such as the Amarone della Valpolicella and the Valpolicella Ripasso have their home.

On the southern slopes of the mountains in the small province of Treviso, north of Venice, are the two DOCG-quality Prosecco wine regions: Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene and Colli Asolani-Prosecco. The white variety Glera was itself known as Prosecco until 2009. With the introduction of Prosecco as a protected designation of origin, the name was then changed to the historical name Glera.

Wineries in Veneto

If you are interested in full-bodied dry red wines with an exquisite fullness of aroma, there is hardly any way around the Amarone della Valpolicella in Veneto. The wine can compete with the best Italian red wines such as Barolo from Piedmont and Brunello di Montalcino. Here at VINELLO you will find these first-class delicacies, for example from the Costa Arènte Winery, with the "Classico" award from the Cecilia Winery and as "Riserva" from the Masi Agricola Winery.

Masi Agricola also produces a fruity and fine Soave DOC, which will delight friends of dry Italian white wines. If you like this direction, you will probably also appreciate the Soave DOC from Bolla and the Soave DOC from the Latium Morini winery.

The Vigneti Villabella winery with its Vigna Morlongo Bardolino Classico DOC offers you a nice introduction to the world of red wines from Bardolino east of Lake Garda. A delicious rosé variant is the Bardolino Chiaretto DOC from the Azienda Agricola Gorgo winery.

If you are looking for a first-class Prosecco Spumante, you will find it at the Bisol Winery. The Cartizze Prosecco Superiore and the Crede Prosecco Superiore from the DOCG area Valdobbiadene are lively sparkling wines with pleasant fruity notes.
