1 From 2

The ancient grape variety has many faces and offers everything the wine heart desires. Discover the immeasurable variety that one of the first noble wine grapes ever managed to develop in its millennia-old history. Always fresh, light and popular - Muskateller is a good idea and an even better white wine.

Yellow, Red, Rose Muskateller

The noble Muskateller grape variety gives the winegrowers of the world an almost inexhaustible freedom to interpret the wine from the small-berried and colour-varying grapes. Gelber Muskateller is known worldwide for the best white wines. Muskateller also reaches its full potential as sparkling, semi-sparkling or dessert wine and even red wine, known as Rose Muskateller, is represented under the great family name. Entertaining table wines, such as Muscat de Hambourg and Muscat d'Alexandrie, are sought-after wines for in between. Muscat simply always fits. And has been for over 5000 years. Quality prevails - in many different ways.

Wandering fly - origin of Muscat wine

As early as 3000 BC, the grape variety Muskateller was known among Egyptians and Persians. Via the sea trade routes of the Phoenicians and Greeks, the delicious wine spread throughout the Mediterranean region and was cultivated by the Romans on their expansions throughout Europe. The whole of Europe? No, the indomitable grape feels most at home in warm and dry regions. Italy, Spain, France, Portugal and South Africa are first-class producers of fine Muscat white wines. Smaller, but first-class, stocks of the yellow Muskateller can be found in Austria and Germany.

Although the name Muskateller clearly refers to Muskat, it derives from the Latin term musca, meaning fly. Presumably because the little flies were only too happy to snack on the aromatic grape. A condition that has persisted to this day.

The name says it all - Muskateller taste

The highly aromatic Muskateller wine captivates with its distinctive nutmeg note, which is prominent in the aroma as well as in the taste. Orange, peach, fig, oriental spices and vanilla pods join the bouquet and round off the fine and fresh body. The fine fruity acidity harmonizes with the intense aromas and makes the Muskateller a quite quaffable white wine for wonderful summer days.

The dessert wines and sparkling wines, such as Moscato d'Asti, also contain the typical Muscat flavour in their golden yellow colour, refined with tangy sweetness and fine perlage.

Our white wine recommendation

  • Muskateller Kabinett semi-dry - Kiefer Winery

A semi-dry white wine from Austria. Where the mountains are high and the yellow Muskateller shines brightly. The intense bouquet is determined by playful nuances of nutmeg, lychee, mango and fine acacia blossom. The lively acidity complements the wonderful sweetness and makes the Muskateller Kabinett from Weingut Kiefer the perfect companion for exotic dishes.

  • Cardinale Lanata Moscato d'Asti DOCG - Villa Lanata

From the picturesque Piedmont comes the fresh and sweet Cardinale Lanata Moscato d'Asti from Villa Lanata. The play of color in the glass reflects with greenish accents in the straw yellow body. Naturally dominant is the nutmeg note, which combines with fruity scents of pear, orange and delicate sage. A Frizzante Muscat with elegant perlage and a vital finish. Goes well with desserts and fruit tarts.
