The Tres Picos Garnacha Campo de Borja DO from Bodegas Borsao brings a wonderfully expressive wine into the glass: sweet aromas of cherry liquor, liquorice and white pepper are combined with dusty, loamy impressions and combined into a full-bodied, fleshy wine.
Tasting note/ tasting of the Tres Picos
The Tres Picos from Borsao is presented in the glass in a dark cherry red. Intense aromas of red berries and black church dominate the nose. In addition, there are wonderfully floral nuances. On the palate, this Spanish Syrah is rich and well-structured. Here, too, fruity aromas reminiscent of blueberry and cherries are revealed. These are complemented by fine vanilla notes. With its pleasantly integrated tannins, the Tres Picos reveals a long-lasting, balanced reverberation.
Bodegas Borsao has been a first-class, constant and extremely pleasant address for red wines for many years. The wines produced here are always clear and fruity, concentrated, always fresh with animating acidity. The approximately 620 small producers who have joined forces to form this cooperative know how to exploit the full potential of the quaint region of Campo de Borja. At an altitude of 350 to 750 metres, they cultivate almost 2,400 hectares of vineyards with very old vines, which fortunately survived the phase of new plantings of international grape varieties in the 1980s and 1990s. In the wine cellar of the cooperative, chief oenologist José Luis Chueca likes to draw on tried and tested products: cement tanks and barriques are used here, wine is produced according to traditional principles. For Chueca, the quality of the grape counts, because it cannot be replaced by anything in the cellar. The indigenous Garnacha grape variety plays a primary role in Bodegas Borsao; it is believed to originate in Aragon, as it is also called "Tinto Aragonéz“ in Spain. Over the centuries, the Garnacha has perfectly adapted to the harsh life in Campo de Borja and acknowledges the gentle stress with an enormous juice concentration. Slate soils created by the weathering of the granite formations of the Moncayo Mountains form the base of the bush wine grapes and provide the unique minerality in the wines. In addition, the very continental climate with dry hot days and cool nights has a positive influence on the development of the grapes. Too hot temperatures during reading time counteract the cool north wind "El Cierzo“, which constantly blows from the Atlantic in spring and autumn. The nearby 2,300 metre high mountains with the three characteristic peaks (Tres Picos) form a natural barrier to the west and help to reduce precipitation.
