La Braccesca Tenuta

Tenuta La Braccesca - with armor and sword

The agricultural estate Tenuta La Braccesca in southern Tuscany, extends over 508 hectares, including 340 hectares of vineyards, where once was the country estate of the Counts Bracci. From them also comes the name and the coat of arms of the estate: an arm in armor with a sword in his hand. Since 1990 the Marchesi Antinori have been the owners of this estate, so idyllically situated, and with its total area it is the largest property of the family.
Due to its particular position between Montepulciano and Cortona, two hearts beat in La Braccesca: on one side the traditional Nobile di Montepulciano, on the other the innovative, modern side of Syrah wines from Cortona, an emerging reality in the wine world with great potential.

Tenuta La Braccesca - viticulture and vinification between tradition and innovation

The largest part of the vineyards, 237 hectares are located on the border between Montepulciano and Cortona. The other part, 103 hectares, reaches the town of Montepulciano in the south of Tuscany and includes three of the most prestigious sub-areas for the cultivation of important red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano. In the area of Montepulciano is grown mainly the traditional Sangiovese, in the area of Cortona Syrah, as well as a small proportion of Merlot.
Syrah, in particular, finds an ideal habitat in the clayey soil at the foot of the hill of Cortona, favored by a rather dry climate with little water. It is a new territory in the Tuscan wine world, fascinating and challenging at the same time for Marchesi Antinori.

La Braccesca Vineyards

The aging cellars of La Braccesca are completely underground under the prestigious estate house and are divided into barrique cellars and barrel cellars. Here are barriques, tonneaux and barrels of different sizes, made of French, American and Hungarian oak, very carefully selected according to what wine they will then receive and bring to maturity. The use of stainless steel and wood, traditional mehtodes and the most modern technologies are used with a clear vision to the wine: the best characteristics of the past should be able to evolve and find expression in the present and future.

Enjoy La Braccesca!

Southern Tuscany, the Val di Chiana and Cortona are still an insider tip for travelers. Tenuta La Braccesca offers a visit to the beautifully tended vineyards, the fascinating wine cellar, wine tasting with typical local dishes, and for those who like to try their hand at cooking, an entertaining cooking class to prepare one of the traditional pasta dishes of Cortona.

The following wines are vinified at Tenuta La Braccesca:

  • Vigneto Santa Pia Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG
  • La Braccesca Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
  • Sabazio Rosso di Montepulciano DOC
