
From the monastery to the winery Tenuta Badia a Passignano
The small and fine winery Badia a Passignano of the Marchesi Antinori in the Chianti Classico wine region is still a monastery of the monks of the Order of Vallombrosa of the Benedictines, in the cellar vaults of the monastery ripens today the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano.
Badia a Passignano of the Marchesi Antinori in an excellent neighborhood
In one of the most wild and beautiful areas of Chianti Classico, above Sambuca Val di Pesa, about 3 km from the Tignanello winery, lies Badia a Passignano.
The vineyard extends over 50 hectares below the Abbey of Badia a Passignano. Hundreds of volumes from the State Archives of Florence attest to the importance of this small settlement in the history of Chianti. At the same time, the documents testify to the centuries-old cultivation of grapes in this area. On the other hand, in the cellars of the abbey and the monastery dating back to the 11th century, there are about 2000 barriques of French oak from the winery. To be worthy of the history, Antinori takes only the best Sangiovese clones that come from the nearby very old vineyards of Tignanello.
Wine meets pleasure in Badia a Passignano
The vineyards around Badia were acquired by Antinori in 1987 and within a very short time one of the most exclusive and qualitatively almost perfect vineyards has been created on the historic spot - Tenuta Badia a Passignano. Very close to the entrance to the abbey, Allegra Antinori opened in 1995 the small enoteca "La Bottega", to which the restaurant "Osteria di Passignano" is attached. Of course, Antinori wines can be obtained in both. Together with the idyll of the surrounding countryside, this place should not be missing on any trip to Italy.
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano
Tenuta Badia a Passignano vinifies a single wine. With the establishment of the Consorzio Gran Selezione in 2013, the Chianti Classico of Badia a Passignano is produced as Gran Selezione, a quality designation that is granted only to absolute top wines and is above the Riserva: at least 30 months of aging are required, of which at least 3 months in bottle storage.
