The Tawny 20 Years Old from Taylor's Port from the Portuguese wine-growing region DOC Douro is vinified from the grape varieties Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cao, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional.
This port is aged for two decades in oak barrels with a brilliant amber colour in the glass. The bouquet is complex and multi-layered and reveals intense aromas of baked apple, roasted almonds, cinnamon and honey, creating a Christmassy atmosphere. On the palate this port wine impresses with freshness, fruity acidity and soft, perfectly integrated tannins. The balanced, soft taste convinces with juicy, delicate aromas and a long finish.
Vinification of Taylor's Port Tawny 20 Years old
Matured Tawny with age indication requires first of all the art of blending and wise foresight on the evolution of the wine during its long maturing period in the barrel. Each Tawny is composed from the beginning for its specific age: 10, 20, 30 or 40 years and must always have its characteristic style and taste. Even if this port is always composed from different wines and vintages.
The grapes for this wine are harvested exclusively by hand and brought to the Taylor's Port cellar, where they are destemmed and fermented in open stainless steel tanks. As soon as half of the sugar is fermented, the fermentation process is stopped by adding high-proof distillate. This preserves the natural residual sweetness of this wine. Finally this Port wine matures for 20 years in wooden barrels, until it is filled on the bottle.
