The Tawny 10 Years Old from Taylor's Port matured for 10 years in old barriques with 620-litre capacity and is vinified from the Tinta Amarela, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca and Tinta Cao grape varieties.
In the glass, this port glows in tan tones with brick-red reflections. The sweet bouquet is extremely complex: oven-fresh baking plums combine with figs, quince jelly and a hint of honey. This is accompanied by subtle hints of herbs and spices. These notes can also be found in the taste, where they harmonize with a fruity, surprisingly fresh acidity and nut notes. This port wine has a lot of tension, strength and liveliness that last until the long, balanced and very elegant reverberation.
Vinification of Taylor's Port Tawny 10 Years Old
Aged Tawny primarily demands the art of blending and wise foresight of the development of wine during its long ageing in barrels. Because every Tawny is composed from the beginning for its specific age: 10, 20, 30 or 40 years and must always have its characteristic style and taste. Even if this port is composed of always different wines and vintages.
The grapes for this wine are harvested exclusively by hand and brought to the wine cellar of Taylor's Port, destemmed there and fermented in open stainless steel tanks. Sas soon as half of the sugar has been fermented, the fermentation process is stopped by the addition of high-percentage distillate. This preserves this wine's natural residual sweetness. Finally, this port wine matures for 10 years in wooden barrels until it is filled onto the bottle.
