The Italian winery Statti is located Calabria. A region whose former name is "Enotria Tellus", in German: Land of Wine. What better way to start a winery than here?
Statti Winery - Blessed by the seven winds
Wines have been produced in Calabria for thousands of years. Autochthonous vines introduced at the beginning of the era by the ancient Greeks now form the wealth of this region. Antonio and AlbertoStatti, the so-called Statti brothers, can draw fully from this wealth. The Stattis have always been closely associated with Calabria and viticulture. For example, the family was awarded the title of Baron in the 17th century and owns one of the most beautiful palaces in Lamezia Terme. The Stattis have always played a leading role in Calabria, and so Antonio and AlbertoStatti have decided to continue their close ties to the past and tradition. But in a forward-looking and innovative way. "To interpret Calabria in a modern way and to prove the international importance of the wines obtained from traditional Calabrian vines." That's how the challenge Alberto and Antonio are taking on reads. Alberto is vice president of the national growers association and Antonio is a member of Agivi, the association of young winemakers from Italy.
The Statti winery decided to make a tabula rasa
In the nineties, the two took over the family business. At that time, the production of high quality wines was considered the greatest challenge. In the first, very busy years, the Stattis took courage and cleared vines from the less suitable sites and planted many times more suitable sites. Almost at the same time, the two brothers began their collaboration with two young but quite experienced oenologists from Sicily, Vincenzo Bambina and Nicola Centonze. In 2004 they started a project aimed at the best interpretation of autochthonous traditional vines. The aim is to enhance the terroir of Lamezia Terme while preserving the given environmental characteristics. The area where the vineyards are located is called Setteventi (Seven Winds). The name is due to the sea winds that prevail here and strongly influence the climate. This leads, among other things, to the positive effect that there are no mold or fungal diseases on the vines and the Statti winery can therefore do without pest control. Statti 's wines are therefore purely natural products and worth at least one tasting.
