The Teldeschi Zinfandel from Ravenswood is an excellent American red wine cuvée from the Zinfandel (80%), Carignan (12%) and Petite Sirah (8%) grape varieties.
This wine shimmers a very dark purple with dark red highlights in the glass. Powerful aromas of juicy black cherries, ripe dark berries (blackberry and blueberry) and some cherry liqueur pamper the nose. Add notes of caramel, coffee and some baked cocoa
.Also on the palate presents the sweet fruit aroma of the nose with subtle notes of smoke and vanilla. The tannins are noticeably dense and yet velvety soft. The beautiful acidity harmonizes wonderfully with the pleasantly subtle sweetness. The finale is very lively and of beautiful length with fruity reverberation.
Vinification of the Ravenswood Zinfandel Teldeschi The grapes
of the Teldeschi Zinfandel come from the single layer Teldeschi in the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. The combination of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignan is a classic blend for older vineyards.
All grapes for this American red wine are harvested by hand and immediately brought to the wine cellar of Ravenswood. The harvested material is first mashed in and then fermented in open fermenters. After the fermentation process has been completed, this wine remains on the mash for 10 to 15 days before it is carefully removed. This red wine then matures for 19 months in French oak barrels (30% new wood). Finally, this wine rests on the bottle before it leaves the Ravenswood winery.
Food recommendation for the Zinfandel Ravenswood Single Vineyard Teldeschi
Enjoy this dry red wine from the USA with braised lamb leg, fried duck breast with cranberry sauce, oven-fresh roast beef with savoury side dishes or with matured hard cheese.
