The Rosso Toscana IGT of Santa Cristina is the historic wine of this Antinori winery. This red wine presents itself ruby red with violet reflections in the glass, on the nose it smells intensely fruity of ripe red berry fruits, which are accompanied by floral accents and spicy nuances of black pepper, balsamic notes and eucalyptus. On the palate, the Santa Cristina Rosso is dry, appealing, characterized by a varied and harmonious taste, with soft tannins. The finish is pleasant, persistently fruity and elegant.
Vinification of Santa Cristina Rosso Toscana IGT
60% from Sangiovese and 40% from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are vinified for this red wine. Depending on the grape variety, the grapes were harvested at the perfect time and vinified separately. After gentle destemming and pressing, maceration and alcoholic fermentation takes place for one week in stainless steel tanks at temperatures below 25°C. The wine is then transferred, the malolactic fermentation is completed by the end of the winter. The expansion of the Santa Cristina Rosso takes place partly in stainless steel, partly in wooden barrels. Only at the end of the following summer is the wine bottled and only then sold.
The first Santa Cristina Rosso Toscana was vinified in 1946 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori and is one of the two flagships of the winery. Over time, more wines have been added, as well as a Vin Santo and a virgin olive oil from the vineyard's olive groves.
Food recommendation for the Rosso Tuscany of Santa Cristina
Enjoy this red Tuscany cuvée as a wonderful accompaniment to dark meat, lamb mint braised in red wine, ripe and spicy cheeses, but also with preparations with Tuscan or Umbrian truffles.
