Relais Russiz Superiore is located among the hills of Collio in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The lion and eagle of Collio (the lion is the emblem of the parent company Marco Felluga, the eagle of Russiz) are two prestigious wineries in the region, always at the forefront of quality.
Russiz Superiore Winery - the Eagle of Collio
The history of Russiz Superiore is congruent with that of Marco Felluga. The family started growing grapes in the second half of the 19th century, at that time in Istria, where they were based. In the 1930s Giovanni Felluga finally separated from his homeland and moved to Collio.
It was to be the penultimate of his seven children, Marco, who took over the reins from his father. in 1956 he finally founded a company under his name. He trained at the Conegliano School of Enology, so he was equipped for his task and at the same time had the tools to develop and progress the family business.
Today, Roberto is the fifth generation to run Marco Felluga and thus Russiz Superiore.
Around Russiz Superiore - the hills of Collio
Collio received its classification as a protected designation of origin (DOC) back in 1964. Gentle hills characterize the land, which lies between the Adriatic Sea and the Alps. Due to the sea air, the climate is mild and balanced. However, almost every hill has its own particular microclimate, so that the wine is formed differently in each case. Typical soil types of the Russiz Superiore area are:
Marl
Sandstone
Flysch
The vineyards of Russiz Superiore are located around the estate in the municipality of Capriva del Friuli. Here the grape varieties Friulano, Pinot Grigio and Bianco, Ribolla Gialla and Sauvignon Blanc are cultivated. In addition, the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, as well as Merlot, thrive.
Philosophy and portfolio of Russiz Superiore
With his training and the knowledge he acquired, Roberto Felluga was able to begin refining the production process. In doing so, he began to age selected white wines. In the case of Russiz Superiore, this is the Pinot Bianco Riserva, which is aged for 3 years in oak barrels. Aging white wines is part of Roberto's philosophy, who appreciates the increase in complexity with age.
In addition to seven white wines, Russiz Superiore today also offers three red wines, as well as two dessert wines.
