The Rudolf Fürst winery can look back on a long tradition. Wine has been cultivated in the Franconian Fürst family since 1638. Paul's father Rudolf, who died very early, had a small, mixed farm in the old town of Bürgstadt with cattle breeding, fruit, wine and tobacco cultivation, which was the way it used to be in this area.
When Paul and Monika Fürst took over the winery in 1979, they built the current estate buildings on the outskirts of the town: located in the heart of the Centgrafenberg, beautifully nestled and with a magnificent view of the medieval half-timbered town of Miltenberg. After the vineyards had become smaller and smaller over the course of many generations due to real division, Mr. and Mrs. Fürst cultivated and renovated particularly beautiful, steep parcels in the best locations. Step by step, the estate was expanded from 1.5 hectares to today's 21 hectares, over 60% of which are planted with Pinot Noir vines.
Franconia and its mineral wealth
250 million years ago, Franconia was located near the equator. An almost desert-like climate prevailed. During this time, the fine quartz grains of the Germanic Basin were covered with a red iron skin. This hematite led to the formation of the Buntsandstein. This primary rock is considered the oldest deposit of the Triassic geological period, before the formation of the Muschelkalk and Keuper. In Churfranken, in the western Main quadrangle, mainly late and Pinot noir precoce has been cultivated on this unique thickness of red rock for a long time.
The Hundsrück and the Centgrafenberg in Bürgstadter Berg, the heart of the Fürst winery, as well as the Schlossberg in Klingenberg are considered the best sites. In the VDP site classification, only the Pinot Noir in Hundsrück and Schlossberg is classified as VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS, while in Centgrafenberg this classification applies to both Pinot Noir and Riesling.
For the winery, the Grand Cru site Karthäuser in Astheim in particular has great potential in the cultivation and vinification of Chardonnay along Burgundian lines.
Its slopes:

CENTGRAFENBERG VDP.GROSSE LAGE - cool power, minerality of iron, elegance and finesse
SCHLOSSBERG VDP.GROSSE LAGE - Fiery, fine and silky, red cherry
HUNDSRÜCK VDP.GROSSE LAGE - Power, long finish, noble perfume, finesse, fine fruit, wild roses
"Wine is a natural product. Our basis. So we simply do what is best for the wine. And if the grape is good, the wine will be good. On the day of the harvest, we know exactly what treasure we have in our hands" - Paul Fürst
