More information

The Ruby Select Reserve of Taylor's Port from the Portuguese wine region DOC Douro is vinified from the Tinta Cao, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional grape varieties.

In the glass, this port shimmers in a deep ruby red with garnet red highlights. The bouquet is carried by ripe aromas of dark berries - blackberry, elderberry and blackcurrant are in the foreground - accompanied by a hint of liquorice. On the palate, this port wine has a full-bodied, lush body with a firm structure. The dark berry fruit of the nose combines with notes of ripe cherries and harmonizes wonderfully with the well-balanced acidity. The reverberation comes with a pleasant length.

Vinification of Taylor's Port Ruby Select Reserve

Traditionally, the grapes for this port are harvested by hand at Taylor's and for the most part completely destemmed in the wine cellar. The readings are mashed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Today, Taylor's Port uses state-of-the-art technology so that the pomace is pressed down regularly and the variety of aromas, colour pigments and flavours blend into the mash. As soon as half of the sugar has been fermented, the fermentation process is stopped by the addition of high-percentage distillate. This preserves this wine's natural residual sweetness. Finally, this port wine matures in large wooden barrels until it is filled onto the bottle.
