The elegant Rotschiefer Riesling from the pen of Weingut Prinz Salm glides into the glass with a bright light yellow color. If you give it some air in the wine glass by swirling, you can perceive a first-class balance in this white wine, because it stands out on the walls of the glass neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like. The bouquet of this white wine from the Nahe is convincing with hints of mirabelle, peach, pear and green apple. If we trace the aromatics further, hazelnut, herbs and mineral come in.
This white wine from Weingut Prinz Salm is something for people who can't drink their wine dry enough. The Rotschiefer Riesling already comes very close to this, as it was vinified with just 1.4 grams of residual sugar. On the palate, the texture of this balanced white wine is wonderfully light. Due to its present fruit acidity, the Rotschiefer Riesling presents itself wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this youthful white wine from the wine-growing region of the Nahe finally inspires with good length. There are again hints of mirabelle and peach. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the slate-dominated soils join in.
Vinification of the Weingut Prinz Salm Rotschiefer Riesling
This white wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, namely Riesling. For this wonderfully balanced single-varietal wine from Weingut Prinz Salm, only impeccable vintage material was brought in. In the Nahe region, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of slate. Rotschiefer Riesling is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this German wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. After the hand harvest, the grapes quickly reach the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. At the end of fermentation, the Rotschiefer Riesling is allowed to further harmonize on the fine lees for several months.
