More information about Pommard AOC - Joseph Drouhin
With the Joseph Drouhin Pommard comes a first-class red wine in the swirled glass. It offers a wonderfully bright, light red color. If you swirl the wine glass, you can perceive a first-class balance in this red wine, because it stands out on the glass walls neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like. In the glass, this red wine from Joseph Drouhin offers aromas of blackberries, complemented by black cherry, leather and cinnamon. On the palate, Joseph Drouhin's Pommard starts out wonderfully aromatic, fruit-driven and balanced. Some wines are dry on the label, others really are. This red wine belongs to the latter group, as it was bottled with only 1.8 grams of residual sugar. Balanced and complex, this dense red wine presents itself on the palate. The fruit acidity of the Pommard is strikingly rounded, making this wine wonderfully smooth. The finish of this youthful red wine from the wine-growing region of Burgundy, more precisely from Côte de Beaune and Haute Côtes de Beaune, finally impresses with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral hints of the soils dominated by gravel and clay.
Vinification of the Joseph Drouhin Pommard
The balanced Pommard from France is a single-varietal wine, pressed from the Pinot Noir grape variety. The grapes grow in optimal conditions in Burgundy. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into soils of clay, gravel and marl. Clearly, the Pommard is also determined by climatic and stylistic factors Côte de Beaune and Haute Côtes de Beaune. This French wine can be described as an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, with an exceptionally impressive presentation. After the hand harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the press house. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small wood at controlled temperatures. At the end of fermentation, the elegant Pommard is aged for 16 months in oak barrels.
