Podere Guado al Melo - The winery in the heart of Bolgheri

In the heart of the DOC Bolgheri lies the family winery of Prof. Scienza, who came to Tuscany from Trentino. With his son Michele, who also gained winemaking experience in Germany, Prof. Scienza produced his first vintage in 2002.

The vineyard Podere Guado al Melo extends over 10 hectares, the vineyards are located on a hill just behind the sea. The family is dedicated to the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Merlot and Vermentino.
The young owner Michele Scienza and comes from an old family of winemakers who already had a business in Trentino. After studying oenology, he worked in Germany and Italy. Integrated pest management and high environmental protection efforts are at the forefront in the vineyard and in the cellar, in order to provide customers not only with a wine of the best quality, but also of natural purity. In collaboration with other wineries and the university, this goal is continuously pursued through intensive research.

The soil is on the one hand very clayey with pebbles, other soils are sandy loam. The climate is dry, mild, windy and with mild winters. There is a great thermal variation between day and night. The cellar of Guado al Melo is just now being built, completely underground, so as not to disturb the atmosphere of the area.
