More information about Ngakirikiri The Gravels - Villa Maria

With the Villa Maria Ngakirikiri The Gravels comes a first-class red wine into the swirled glass. Here it reveals a wonderfully dense, crimson color. At the edge there is also a color transition to garnet red. Swiveling the glass, this red wine reveals a high density and fullness, which shows in strong church windows at the edge of the glass. The nose of this red wine from New Zealand's South Island captivates with aromas of plum and black currant. If we trace the aromatics further, coffee/mocha and vanilla come in, aided by the oak influence.

Villa Maria Ngakirikiri The Gravels delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with only 0.4 grams of residual sugar. This is a real quality wine, which clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so this New Zealander enchants naturally with all dryness with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily need residual sugar. This powerful red wine is full-bodied and multifaceted on the palate. Due to its lively fruit acidity, the Ngakirikiri The Gravels presents itself wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. The finale of this very ripening red wine from the wine-growing region of New Zealand South Island, more precisely from Hawkes Bay, finally impresses with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the gravel-dominated soils.

Vinification of the Villa Maria Ngakirikiri The Gravels

The basis for the powerful Ngakirikiri The Gravels from New Zealand South Island are grapes from the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. On New Zealand's South Island, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of gravel. The berries for this red wine from New Zealand are harvested exclusively by hand when they are perfectly ripe. After the hand harvest, the grapes immediately enter the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully ground. This is followed by fermentation in small wood at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the powerful Ngakirikiri The Gravels is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
