White winedrySouth AfricaCoastal Region (ZA)Stellenbosch (ZA)
Since the 90s, Mulderbosch Vineyards has been making innovative wines imbued with the love and passion of the team. With multiple awards and recognition in the critical world, this South African winery is a name to watch.
From a dirty word to an international name
Larry Jacobs purchased a farm in 1989 that locals called"Vuilplasie" - dirty little farm. In the spirit of a challenge, he partnered with Mike Dobrovic, a Sauvignon Blanc connoisseur, and began cleaning up the land and planting vines. After building a small cellar, they were able to release a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chardonnay. After gaining international notoriety, Adam took over the winemaking reins in 2011. Mulderbosch Vineyards was the first winery in the country to introduce a barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc. Today, Henry Kotzé, Mick Craven and Werner Wessels run the estate.
Original from Stellenbosch
Mulderbosch wines are produced from grapes grown on the estate's own vineyards as well as from partner vintners. With the exception of the Rosé Cabernet Sauvignon, the wines come exclusively from the Stellenbosch region. On the vineyards thrive:
Chardonnay
Sauvignon Blanc
Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Sauvignon
Merlot
Malbec
Petit Verdot
Pinot Meunier
Two single-vineyard wines are also offered, such as a Chenin Blanc from False Bay, and a Cabernet Franc from Mulderbosch. The False Bay site contributes more intense flavors and balanced acidity due to its cooler climate. The sites face south/southeast and are also slightly cooler than others as a result.
Temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks are used in the cellar at Mulderbosch Vineyards, along with a selection of 500-liter wooden barrels for aging. Mulderbosch wines are produced in such a way that they can be enjoyed directly upon purchase, but they certainly have an aging potential of 10-15 years.
Commitment
In addition to viticulture, Mulderbosch Vineyards is also committed to environmental and social issues. The winery is a member of the sustainability initiative IPW(Integrated Production of Wine). For example, they have their own water management system, planted 1000 trees on their own land in 2018, and have WIETA certification for ethical practices.
