The Monticol Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC by Cantina Terlan glows in the glass in a ruby to garnet red. On the nose, multi-faceted and delicious aromas of blackberries and forest strawberries unfold, but also tobacco and a touch of flint accompanied by fine notes of meadow champignons. This balanced, structured red wine impresses on the palate with its mineral elegance and its long and exciting reverberation.
Vinification of Cantina Terlan Monticol Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC
The grapes for this Pinot Noir grow in vineyards at 500 to 600 m asl. The air currents in these locations ensure fresh temperatures even in summer. This grape variety has been proven to be cultivated in South Tyrol since the middle of the 19th century, especially the older vineyards give the resulting wines structure and elegance.
Harvesting and selection are done manually. The grapes are destemmed and then fermented slowly at a controlled temperature and with gentle movement of the must in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation and subsequent ageing over 12 months takes place 50% in large oak barrels and 50% in barriques. For the expansion in barriques, a third new barrels are used. Three months before bottling, the cuvée is made from the two wines
