The Merlot Selection by Karl Pfaffmann presents itself in the glass in an intense ruby red with a multilayered bouquet. In the foreground are the aromas of dried plums, mocha and spices, which is underlined by chocolate and a touch of leather.
This red wine reveals itself on the palate full-bodied and round with a soft tannin structure. Subtle wood notes lead into an impressively long finish.
Vinification of the Karl Pfaffmann Merlot Selection
The vines for this single-varietal Merlot are rooted in single vineyards on loess loam soils with limestone inclusions.
The maceration period of 12 days with daily stirring of the must allows an intensive extraction of aromas, colour and tannins. Two-thirds of this wine is aged in new barriques and one-third in old barriques for 24 months. Afterwards, this German Merlot is refined for some more time in the bottle.
