The Meerlust winery, long known for its top quality wines, has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. Today, the traditional devotion to the art of winemaking continues under the direction of Hannes Myburgh, the eighth generation keeper of this 17th century national monument.
Meerlust, with its historic manor house, classic wine cellar, family cemetery, dovecote and bird sanctuary, is located fifteen kilometers south of Stellenbosch, with the blue crescent of False Bay just five kilometers away. Wines are made exclusively from grapes grown on the estate, which is uniquely suited to producing wines of exceptional complexity and character.
In the summer months, sea breezes and evening mists drift down from the coast to cool the vineyards. The grapes ripen slowly, achieving full, concentrated varietal flavors. The soils are predominantly deep, good Hutton and Clovelly soils, which provide the vines with excellent drought resistance and an ideal substrate for producing concentrated, complex wines.
