The Riserva Mazon Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC by J. Hofstätter has a dense ruby and garnet red colour in the glass. The nose develops a seductive, complex bouquet with the typical scents of undergrowth, ripe, sweet berries and sour cherries. On the palate this impressive Riserva Pinot Noir from northern Italy is warm, with round, velvety tannins, expressive body, harmonious and multi-faceted in taste. The finish is persistently long and very pleasing.
Vinification of the Riserva Mazon Pinot Nero Alto Adige by J.Hofstätter
This Riserva Pinot Noir takes its name from the high plateau on which the vineyards stand and the grapes grow on vines over 30 years old, on soils that consist of a conglomerate of clay, lime and porphyry.
After manual harvesting, 75% of the grapes are destemmed and 25% reach the fermentation tank intact, where they remain for about 10 days. During this time, the must is kept in constant contact with the grape skins. The wine Mazon is then aged in small wooden barrels for one year, followed by six months in large wooden barrels and one year in bottles. Only after this long maturing period of 30 months does it come on the market as Riserva.
The Blauburgunder grape variety was successfully cultivated for the first time in South Tyrol at the beginning of the 19th century. It soon became apparent that the region, the gentle hills and the special microclimate of the Mazon plateau offered ideal conditions for producing powerful pinot noirs of international format and with great potential.
Food pairing for the Riserva Mazon Pinot Nero Alto Adige by J.Hofstätter
Enjoy this splendid red riserva from South Tyrol with dishes with red meat, poultry, game, pasta dishes with meat sauces and medium-ripe and mature cheeses.
The Riserva Mazon will unfold its fullness even better if it is stored in the bottle for another 1 to 2 years.
