The wines of Marco Real from Navarre are produced primarily for the hotels of the chain NH. However, the quality and available capacity of the winery made it possible that today the wines can be purchased outside the industry.
An exclusive wine for the hotels
Bodega Marco Real was originally created as a separate winery for the NH hotel chain by Antonio Catalán, who wanted to supply his hotels with his own high-quality wine. The location chosen was Navarra (NH - Navarra Hoteles), in keeping with the company's history, and because of the excellent vineyards. The estate was equipped with modern buildings and technology directly from construction to facilitate quality control.
However, the capacity of the newly built production and storage facilities was so great that soon they were looking for a way to sell the wine elsewhere. At this point Juan Ignacio Belasco joined owner of Destillerías La Navarra. Through his contacts and relationships in the commercial business, he gave Marco Real access to the international market, so that today the wines are also available outside the hotels.
Wines from Navarre
Approximately 300 hectares of vineyards provide the grapes for Marco Real wines, 200 of which are owned by the estate, the rest are from collaborating wineries. The grape varieties currently grown are:
- Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Garnacha and Graciano (red grape varieties)
- Viura, Chardonnay and Yellow Muscat (white grape varieties)
Approximately 90% of the harvest is red grapes and 10% is white. The total annual harvest is about 2 million kg.
Every aspect is under control
According to the state of the art, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks are used for fermentation in Marco Real 's cellar. 42000 hectoliters of total capacity allow the production of many different wines at the same time, for example, for reservas the wines can macerate longer. Finally, the wines with barrel aging end up in one of 4300 barriques made of American and French oak from renowned barrel manufacturers such as Seguin Moreau or Berthomieu.
The barrels are constantly renewed and the maximum age is 6 years. The wines are then finally drawn to the bottle in its own bottling plant and are still post-matured in the cellar if it is a Riserva or Crianza. Alternatively, a warehouse is also available, both this and the cellar have temperature control to store the wines in the best possible way.
