La Trigi stands for affordable and high-quality enjoyment from some of the best wine regions in Italy. The brand belongs to the Italian Mondo del Vino group of companies.
La Trigi - a cross-section of Italy
In 1991, the story of La Trigi begins with its founding by the minds behind Mondo del Vino: Roger Gabb, Alfeo Martini and Christoph Mack. Several regions of Italy are represented by these wines:
- Abruzzo
- Tuscany
- Emilia-Romagna
- Veneto
- Sicily
Viticulture in Abruzzo
Only a small strip between the sea and the mountain massif in Abruzzo is suitable for viticulture. Typical for the region are strong temperature fluctuations between day and night. The most famous grape variety of the region is Montepulciano, from which the wine of the same name is produced. Barbera, Ciliegiolo, Merlot and Pinot Nero can also be found. Although red wine dominates, white wines are also produced here.
The home of Chianti
Tuscany is strongly influenced by viticulture. Approximately 65000 hectares of vineyards are cultivated in the region today. Lots of sun and poor limestone soils produce some of the most famous Italian wines. Chianti is probably the most famous, the Sangiovese grape variety from which it is vinified is the most important grape variety in Tuscany. In addition to the iconic wine, you can also find other specialties such as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the Supertoscans or Vin Santo.
Pearls of Emilia-Romagna
Although Emilia-Romagna cannot match the fame and often quality of its neighbours, there are hidden gems here and there that are worth discovering. The most famous wine of the area is Lambrusco, which is often served as a starter at parties. La Trigi has a Merlot from the Rubicone IGT appellation in its portfolio.
Veneto
Prosecco is probably the most famous sparkling wine in Italy. Produced in the hills around Treviso, it began its triumphal march around the world several years ago. It seems logical that the conditions for the white Glera grape also benefit other white wines, and so at La Trigi you will also find some still wines made from other grape varieties such as Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio from the region around the lagoon city.
Sicily
The island with the famous volcano Etna produces very different wines with its limestone soils and volcanic rock, as the terroir resembles a mosaic. No two wines are the same. Sicily's most famous grape variety is the indigenous Nero d'Avola, which has found its way back to the top after a temporary shadowy existence. La Trigi offers a Pinot Noir from the region.
