The Juan Gil winery, founded in 1916 by Juan Gil Jiménez has been guided for generations by only one clear idea: To do good work and be proud of the name Juan Gil.
Juan Gil Guerrero, son of the founder, and subsequently his grandson Juan Gil González, improved and consolidated the status of the winery, carrying on the knowledge of traditions passed from parents to children. Today, it is the turn of the fourth generation at Juan Gil, which combines tradition with the achievements of the technical revolution.
Juan Gil - a special style
Jumilla - in this place with extreme climate and strong contrasts is located the winery Juan Gil. With hot summers, characterized by intense sunshine and long, cold winters, as well as a difference of 25ºC between day and night and the almost total absence of rainfall, the climate in Jumilla demands a lot from the vines. In addition, the soils are very dry and stony. These peculiarities are what give the Juan Gil wines their character - it is the style of Jumilla.
Juan Gil - in the kingdom of Monastrell
The vineyards of Juan Gil are located between 700 and 850 meters of altitude, on sandy and calcareous soils, stony on the surface and very poor in nutrients. It is the kingdom Monastrell that is represented in the vast majority of Juan Gil wines.
In addition to old vines, over 40 years old, and other younger Monastrell vines, Juan Gil also grows
Syrah
Cabernet Sauvignon
Merlot
and Petit Verdot
which adapt well to the terroir and deliver intense nuances of spice and fruit.
A new era for Juan Gil
Since the construction of the new winery, many things have changed at Juan Gil. The demands of modern wines of our time require not only craftsmanship but also a lot of technology: strict temperature control of the must, stainless steel tanks and excellent hygienic conditions throughout the vinification process ensure maximum quality at Juan Gil every year.
But wine is not only "made" in the cellar, but first of all in the vineyard. Therefore, the location of the vineyards next to the winery allows for extensive monitoring of the development of the grapes, which are necessary for an excellent wine. It is a new era, with new wines and a mixture of old vines and new techniques, that Juan Gil is entering.
