The perfect Pinot Noir is the declared goal of Alexander Stodden of the winery Jean Stodden.
Described by the restaurant guide Gault Millau as "the Pinot Noir maniac from the Ahr" and celebrated by the wine press for years, this goal does not seem far-fetched at all. And with the address Rotweinstraße 7-9 in Rech in the red wine paradise Ahr even less.
Jean Stodden - in harmony with nature
The Stodden family has been involved in viticulture since 1578, until Alois Stodden began pressing his own grapes in 1900 - Pinot Noir, of course. "In harmony with nature to bring wine to perfection," Alexander Stodden took over his parents' winery in 2001 and runs it with the goal of bringing the perfect Pinot Noir to the bottle. The conditions are there:
numerous hours of sunshine
sandy clay soils interspersed with stones
south-facing steep and sloping sites.
Only the best vines enjoy these conditions, as pruning in spring and winter ensures "goodness not quantity", followed by the "green harvest" in summer, when more grapes are cut. Thus, only vines rich in extract remain on the vine.
The best Ahr wines from Jean Stodden
Hand harvesting in the fall, careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard and cellar, and 24 days in the fermentation tank prepare the Pinot Noir from the Jean Stodden winery for aging in oak barrels. The Jean Stodden wines are single-varietal, but cuvées from the top sites between Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Dernau and Rech. Stylistic and precise red wine has earned the winery numerous points and awards, one could possibly already speak of the perfect Pinot Noir. Alexander Stodden continues to pursue his destiny and creates year after year the best Pinot Noirs from the Ahr.
