The team of the Graham Beck winery is united behind one goal: the perfect Bubble.
Graham Beck - in search of the perfect sparkling wine
What it takes for the perfect Bubble can be found not far from the town of Robertson in South Africa, on the vineyards and in the cellar of Graham Beck. Vinified according to the Méthode Cap Classique, the globally respected producer produces outstanding and sparkling sparkling wines based on passion and pride in every step.
Sparkling wine from South Africa by Graham Beck
The family-run winery was founded in 1983 by entrepreneur Graham Beck, who purchased Madeba Farm outside Robertson to lay the foundation for a world-class winery in the region.
This was soon joined by a second winery in Franschhoek, South Africa's oldest wine-growing region. After the own vineyards were extended towards Stellenbosch and Swartland, there was the possibility of aging and bottling in Stellenbosch. All measures are primarily aimed at maintaining the optimal quality of the vintage and to take advantage of the diversity of the South African terroir.
Responsible for the Cap Classique range at Graham Beck for almost 30 years has been none other than Pieter Ferreira - also known as "Mr. Bubbles". His previous stations were: Moet et Chandon, Mumm and Champagne Vessel. Weingourmet writes: "Still considered the best producer of sparkling wine in South Africa, Pieter Ferreira is even said to have bubbles in his blood."
The sparkling wine
Graham Beck sparkling wines made using the Méthode Cap Classique, the same process used to make Champagne, reveal themselves in the glass full of elegance and joy. In all 3 categories, not only do the individual strengths of the diverse plots resonate, but also up to 49 million bubbles per bottle. The timeless pleasure of Graham Beck sparkling wines is due to the carefully selected and hand-picked grapes that thrive on the limestone soils. Thanks to the great temperature differences between day and night, the vines ripen to perfection. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thus form a harmonious union of buttery and tropical aromas as well as lush structure and nuances of red berries. The recipe has remained unchanged for years and has always reflected the finesse and consistent quality of Robertson's South African sparkling wines. From selective hand-harvesting to extremely gentle pressing to fermentation in stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, the steps before bottle fermentation shape the wine in noble elegance, while unwanted biting tannins or acidity are absent.
The 3 sparkling wine categories
The winery's portfolio is divided into three tiers that authentically pave the Graham Beck way.
- Non Vintage: a cuvée of different vintages and vineyards that guarantees consistent high quality. The house sparkling wine is the result of the finest precision blending, combining the best base wines so that the signature Graham Beck style brings drinking pleasure to the world every year.
- Vintage Collection: Exceptional base wines of a vintage receive the honor of being vinified as Vintage Collection. Only the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from individual vineyards are brought into the cellar.
- Prestige Collection: Absolute top sparkling wines from Graham Beck are listed under the Prestige Collection. The winery is particularly proud of these wines, as they exemplify the highest quality at every step. From the vintage to the base wine to the outstanding sparkling wine, Prestige from Graham Beck is considered the best of the Breede River Valley.
