Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Sophia 2016 - Craggy Range
More information

The Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Syrah from Craggy Range is a fascinating red wine cuvée made from Merlot (62%), Cabernet Sauvignon (19%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Petit Verdot (1%) and presented in the glass in a dark garnet red.

The expressive bouquet is matched by notes of blackberries, cassis and cocoa - accompanied by woody hints. On the palate, this red wine is lush without being intrusive, and has a body with sweet fruit and caramelized nuances. The fine tannins are perfectly woven into the dense texture. The excellent length in the final rounds off this New Zealand wine unforgettable.

Vinification of  the Gimblett Gravel Vineyard Sophia Craggy Range

The various grape varieties all come from the Hawke's Bay cultivation area.

The grapes are harvested and selected with great care. The grapes are pressed in the wine cellar and the mash is then fermented in a stainless steel tank. This is followed by 18 months of ageing in French oak barriques.

Food recommendation for  the Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Road Vineyards Sophia

This dry red wine from New Zealand is a real treat with beef fillet with red wine sauce and potato stew, lamb carree with rosemary potatoes or with liver with steamed onions.
