Deep in the southwest of France, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Pyrenees and the Garonnne River, which flows into the sea near Bordeaux, lies Gascony. Here, where the Comte d'Artagnan, known as the 4th Musketeer in Alexandre Dumas' bestseller, resided in his Castelmore castle, not only is the famous Armagnac produced, but Gascony also produces magnificent wines.
Fleur de d'Artagnan - wine homage to Alexandre Dumas
One example is the wine series Fleur de d'Artagnan - the flower of d'Artagnan - of the Plaimont winery. Fleur de d'Artagnan stands for spirited, honest and fresh wines made from the classic grape varieties of Gascony.
For the Fleur de d'Artagnan wines, Plaimont naturally relies first and foremost on the regional classics
Colombard
Ugni Blanc
Tannat
But of course the charm and world fame of the not so far away Bordelais cannot harm the Fleur de d'Artagnan wines either, which is why the Plaimont creations also include the classics
Merlot
Cabernet Sauvignon
Sauvignon Blanc
are also included. Together, they form the foundation on which the success of the Plaimont winegrowers' cooperative in the Saint-Mont appellation in the Gers department of southwestern France is based. Here, at the weather divide between continental and maritime climates, Fleur de d'Artagnan wines capture a huge richness and freshness that is certainly not found everywhere.
Between Atlantic & Pyrenees - perfect terroir
A history of Fleur de d'Artagnan wines cannot be told without outlining the success of Plaimont. At the end of the 70s, committed winegrowers from the communes of Plaisance, Aignan and Saint Mont joined forces, thus bringing the Côtes de Gascogne to the wine map of the world. This explains the name, because Pl stands for Plaisance, Ai for Aignan and Mont for Saint Mont.
