For more than 120 years and 4 generations, the Nieri family has been making wine at Fattoria MontelloniAlessandro Nieri produces typical regional wines in Tuscany with respect for the terroir.
The work of the Nieri family - Fattoria Montellori
Originally intended only for their own consumption, from 1950 the first bottles were bottled under the name of Montellori.
Under Giuseppe Nieri, the grandson of the founder, the vineyard area was expanded to 50 hectares, and in the 1980s the first temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and oak barrels were purchased in order to better age the wine.
Likewise, Giuseppe Nieri experimented with not so well-known white wine varieties such as Viognier, which today is the basis of the house wine. In the 90s, the first vintage sparkling wine of the house was launched.
In addition to Viognier, the following grape varieties are also grown:
Sangiovese is the main grape variety grown at FattoriaMontellori. The vineyards for this are located in Cerreto Guidi and San Miniato. Whilethe first has calcareous and clayey soils and is 150 meters above sea level, the second is slightly higher at 200 meters. Here the soils also contain many fossils and shells and a high clay content.
A bit higher still (about 475 m above sea level) one finds the vineyards for the Chardonnay. Rocky sandstone soils give the Chardonnay the necessary character to be also suitable for a sparkling wine, the microclimate with hot days and cool nights does its other influence. Finally, around the villa thrives the Trebbiano of Montellori, the only flat vineyard of the estate.

There you can also find the beautiful garden of the estate, which was already laid out by previous owners. Victorian style characterizes the garden, which is kept historically correct by the family. Landscape artists also participate in the temporary design of the green areas every year.
