What is known to many as Alejandro Fernández spans a winemaking history now spanning more than 50 years - today under the great name of "Fernández Rivera Family". It all began in 1972, when Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera bought a small 16th-century stone press house with money from the sale of a patent and began cultivating the vineyards.

The first wine - Tinto Pesquera

Three years later, the first wine is finally bottled and put on the market. Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza call it Tinto Pesquera - a tribute to Alejandro and Esperanza's native village, Pesquera de Duero.

Alejandro Fernández - Ambassador of the DO

Alejandro Fernandez

The success of the wines of the Fernández Rivera family led to a steep rise of the region, both in quality and quantity. Thus, it took only a few years to finally create the Ribera del Duero D.O. designation of origin in 1982.

The Janus - the next throw of the top winemaker

Grapes Fernandez Rivera family

in 1982, effectively at the same time as the creation of the Ribera del Duero DO, Alejandro Fernández launched the first Janús Pesquera, named after the two-faced Roman god. The Janús is vinified exclusively in excellent years from grapes grown in Viña Alta, the highest site of Bodega Tinto Pesquera.

Robert Parker discovers Alejandro Fernández

in 1985, Alejandro Fernández came to the attention of the then not yet world-renowned wine critic and recommender Robert Parker. He gives Tinto Pesquera, or more precisely Janús, an exceptionally high rating and classifies it in the "Best Wines of the World" category. For Parker, the Janús is the Spanish Peter.

Condado de Haza - 10 years later

10 years after the great success of the Janús, the next top wine from the next winery of Alejandro Fernández follows in 1995. It is the birth of Condado de Haza, whose Crianza 2008 and 2012 are among the 100 best wines in the world for the prestigious magazine "Wine Spectator".

Dehesa la Granja - 300 years old

Bodega Dehesa La Granja

The stroke rate for Alejandro Fernández increases more and more. As early as 1998, he acquired a 300-year-old winery called Dehesa de la Granja in Vadillo de Guareña in the province of Zamora for the Familia Fernández Rivera. This estate also produces the finest cheese, chickpeas and the highest quality olive oil, in addition to first-class wine.

It still goes on - El Vínculo

Vinedos El Vinculo

in 1999, Familia Fernández Rivera established the El Vínculo winery in Campo de Criptana. In addition to Tempranillo, El Vínculo's vineyards grow Airén, one of the most exciting white grape varieties in the world.

2019 - Three granddaughters take over

The leadership of the Fernandez Rivera family

The granddaughters of Esperanza and Alejandro took over the management of the Fernández Rivera family wineries in 2019. The third generation leads a company that adapts to the times and continues to grow.

Currently, 4 wineries, a hotel and a team of more than 120 employees are under their management.
