Domaine Horgelus - in the heart of southwest France
Domaine Horgelus is located on the sunny hills of Gascony. The region has been known for centuries mainly for its famous Armagnac, but is increasingly showing its potential as one of the most promising wine-growing areas and appellations in France, thanks to the growing quality of the wines produced here. Already in the 80's one could register this change, in the 90's it has become more and more popular with the production of fresh and aromatic white wines. Today, more and more people are attracted and surprised by the red wines and the rosés. A wonderful range that reflects the richness of this region, which for a long time was almost exclusively focused on the production of the noblest French eau de vie: the famous Armagnac.
Domaine Horgelus was born in 1978 when Joseph Le Menn, Breton by trade, fascinated by the charm of the southwest, by gastronomy and the southern French way of life, decided to become active here. The estate, with its 66 hectares of vineyards, also includes 30 hectares of woods and meadows.
The vines of Horgelus
Cultivated are the classics of the region, including
Sauvignon Blanc
Colombard
Tannat
Sauvignon Blanc
Merlot
All of them find their way into first-class cuvées.
Horgelus Chief Enologist Yoan Le Menn
The winery is run by young winemaker Yoan Le Menn, He belongs to the young generation of oenologists who know exactly how to combine modern style and experience. The biggest task for him is to preserve the fruity aromas and freshness of his wines, limiting to the maximum any form of oxidation of the must and the wine. For this reason, the grape harvest takes place starting at 3 o'clock in the morning until the early morning, in order to make the most of the coolness of the morning hours. Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures takes place immediately after soft pressing in stainless steel tanks. The CO2 from the alcoholic fermentation is captured to protect the freshly pressed grape must. From grape to bottling, the entire process is designed to fully ensure the freshness and aromas of the wines. And so the bottled wines surprise with their rich bouquets and fruity flavors.
Five generations of Horgelus winemaking history
With Yoan it is already the fifth generation that produces wines, every year new wines are created, new cuvées that continue the spirit of the Domaine: pleasing wines, uncomplicated and easily accessible for many people and for any occasion.
In addition to fresh and fruity white wines, rosés and reds, Domaine Horgelus also produces Armagnac.
