Domaine Ferret is considered one of the best and most important representatives of the Pouilly Fuissé appellation. Ferret cultivates only 18 hectares of vines, but these are almost exclusively in the top sites. The "amphitheater" of Fuissé provides an outstanding terroir, as well as on the slopes of the Roche de Vergisson. The winery was founded in 1840 and since then the attention has been paid to each vine, each grape, each square centimeter of soil, the literal ground and foundation of the special qualities that this terroir produces.
The geological diversity in the Mâconnais is enormous ,exceptional even for Burgundy. Limestone alternates with calcareous marl, calcareous clay, clay and Jurassic limestone, volcanic sandstone sediment or slate. All soil formations are analyzed and the Chardonnay grapes are vinified strictly separated by vineyard parcel. This preserves the full range of fruit, minerality and spiciness that gives Ferret wines their inimitable polyphonic and at the same time perfectly harmonious character.
Truly a gift of nature, to which the Ferret family gave special expression with their Tête de Cru and Hors Classe classifications. Jeanne Ferret, and later her daughter Colette, ran the domaine very successfully until 2008 when the domaine went to Maison Louis Jadot. Colette passed the baton to the oenologist Audrey Braccini, who in turn continues the success story with much seriousness, respect and sensitivity. The white wines of Domaine Ferret are extremely powerful and yet of particular elegance and finesse.
