The name Pellehaut comes from the Roman word pila, which means a particularly powerful spear. The family history of the Béraut family, which owns the Domaine de Pellehaut, is just as rich in history as the name: For more than 300 years, the family has lived and worked in Montréal-du-Gers, making a living from growing their wines here. The family owns vineyards around the Château de Pellehaut - a castle around which many impressive legends are entwined.
Today, brothers Martin and Mathieu Béraut run the Domaine de Pellehaut winery and produce country wines here that are as first-class as they are good value. The climate here is characterized by many hours of sunshine and the warm foehn that blows down from the Pyrenees. The microclimatic conditions are ideal for the cultivation of e.g. Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and allow concentrated fruits to grow in the arome. These are made into enjoyable white wines at Domaine de Pellehaut.
