Criadores de Rioja is a fairly young winery, founded only in 1999. Even though the company has not been present on the market for long, they have already been able to position themselves well. The Vivanco family , which has been dealing in Rioja wines for a long time, owns the estate, so of course you can benefit from their expertise there.
Vines on the castle hill - winery Criadores de Rioja
In the Iregua Valley, crossed by the river of the same name, the vines grow below the ruined castle Castillo de Clavijo. Rioja itself is one of the most important growing areas in Europe. The soils are mainly composed of:
white lime
Clay
The most common grape varieties are Tempranillo and Garnacha.
The cultivation at Criadoresde Rioja takes place with care, selective pruning and hand harvesting are natural. Pesticides and fertilizers are not used, thus not polluting nature. Today the estate owns about 350 hectares of vines, which benefit from the good location below the castle.
Each Criadores de Rioja wine speaks for itself
Paola Redonda is the boss in the cellar. Here, the cellar master watches over the production of the individual site wines, which are vinified separately before being blended into cuvées. In this way, the individual character of the wines is preserved and many nuances of taste are possible, be it a fruity, berry wine or strong, balsamic notes. The cellaring tradition of Rioja as a whole is very much inspired by Bordeaux, so the wine is typically aged in barrique.
