The Costa di Bussia estate is located in the cru site of Bussia, in the area of the Barolo commune of Monforte d'Alba. Luigi Arnulfo bought the land in 1874 and built the estate. Arnulfo was one of Barolo's early entrepreneurial personalities. He bottled his Barolo wine when this was by no means the norm, he established relationships with foreign markets and began exporting his wines. In the meantime, the estate is owned by the enterprising Paolo Sartirano. Costa di Bussia owns 15 hectares of vineyards. They are located on a relatively steep south-facing slope, immediately surrounding the cellar buildings. The individual plots have names that refer to the small-scale mixed farming of earlier times; they are called 'Campo del Gatto' (Cat Field), 'Campo dei Buoi' (Cow Field), etc. The Costa di Bussia estate works only with its own grapes. The house and cellar have been modernized from the ground up in recent years. Nothing is overdone, everything is down to earth. And so is the style of the wines.
