ChâteauGiscours is one of France's time-honored wine châteaux. Bordeaux wines are made here in the old tradition.
A classic Margaux from Château Giscours
Originally just a watchtower, Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy cloth merchant, bought the land in 1552 and converted it into an estate and planted the first vines. The family expanded the estate with each generation. In the 19th century, the Pescatore and Cruse families built the present castle.
Ideal land for Château Giscours
The vineyards of Château Giscours are located in the Margaux appellation. The gravel soils of this region, which originally date back to the Quaternary period, provide ideal conditions for viticulture. Gravel acts as a natural temperature regulator, reflecting the greatest heat peaks during the day, yet retaining enough heat to reduce the vines' cooling during the night, thus guaranteeing even ripening of the grapes.
The vineyards extend over the hills surrounding Château Giscours , benefiting from better exposure to sunlight. The grape varieties grown are:
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Merlot
- Cabernet Franc
- Petit Verdot
Vinification of Château Giscours wines
The harvest at Château Giscours takes place by hand. Aging is traditionally done in French oak barriques, to which the wine also owes its subtle aromas of dark fruit and spice that blend seamlessly with the tannins. A glass of Château Giscours combines all the typical qualities of a wine from Margaux.
The wines are wonderful for aging, making them ideal for the patient wine connoisseur. In addition to the main wine, Château Giscours also vinifies the second wine La Sirène, the third wine Haut-Médoc de Giscours and a rosé.
