Château de Ribebon is a chateau east of Bordeaux with an attached winery. It belongs to the Domaines Alain Aubert.
The Château de Ribebon - witness to history
The Château de Ribebon was once a hunting lodge for the French King Louis XVI, and Bernadette and Alain Aubert took it on to preserve it. A thorough restoration and new furnishings with contemporary pieces allow one to experience the splendor that reigned here during the last years of the Ancien Régime.
The Domaines Alain Aubert were born from the marriage of Bernadette and Alain, which brought together two great Libournais wine-making families. In total, the Aubert and Faure families have 250 hectares of vines, one hundred of which are now cultivated by Alain, his children and his son-in-law.
The vineyards of the hunting lodge
70 hectares of vineyards belong to the château, which can be overlooked from the château terrace. The vines grow on a plateau at an altitude of 80 metres, from which you can see as far as the Dordogne. The warm climate of Bordeaux favors the ripening of the grapes, dense forests protect the vineyards inland from too harsh winds from the sea
Lime, clay and loam are the main components of the soil on which the different grape varieties for the wine of Château de Ribebon ripen. These are:
- Merlot
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Cabernet Franc
Vinification of the Château de Ribebon
The wine of Château de Ribebon is a classic Bordeaux wine as far as the vinification process is concerned. Thus, after the harvest, sorting and subsequent fermentation, the wine is aged in barriques.
It also has the classification Bordeaux Supérieur, which indicates a deliberately reduced yield of the vines compared to conventional Bordeaux wine to increase the quality.
