Bodegas Salentein - Pioneer in the Valle de Uco at the foot of the Andes
Bodegas Salentein was founded in 1995 and is today one of the most successful addresses in Argentina. Salentein owns a total of 2,000 hectares of land, 700 of which are planted with vines in three different fincas. The vineyards are among the highest in the world, with altitudes ranging from 1,000 to 1,700 meters above sea level. The conditions for growing grapes there are ideal, since low-salt water from the Andes is available for irrigation all year round, and there is sufficient heat and enough hours of sunshine. As it cools at night, this results in a long ripening period. The architecture of the winery of blends perfectly with the landscape, since only natural stone was used.
The cultivation area in the shape of a cross is reminiscent of the missionaries who opened up the land in the Valle de Uco and planted the first vines. The careful handling of the grapes, was already in the foreground during the planning. The cross shape has the advantage that there are no great distances to overcome. The experienced winemaker Laureano Gomez finds here perfect conditions to produce great wines. Particularly impressive is the separate cellar with the wooden fermenters, which was specially set up for the vinification of Primus wines. Because of this traditional way of maceration, Salentein can give the wines a little more individuality. Another attraction is Salentein's visitor center "Killka". Like nowhere else in Argentina, the astonished visitor is offered here a combination of art, wine history and top gastronomy. Both this architecture is fascinating, as well as the view of the mighty snow mountains of the Andes.
