At the Bocchino winery, the passion for distillate is passed from one generation to the next.
Bocchino Distillery - tradition passed on and refined
In 1898,Carlo Bocchino was the first Italian to decide to produce grappa from only one type of marc. All other producers at the time used multiple grape varieties for production. Bocchino founded a small distillery in Canelli in the middle of Piedmont and decided to use only grape marc from the muscatel grapes of the area. Bocchino succeeded in giving the grappa a previously unknown excellence and quality. At the same time, he also developed a special distillation system that was able to bring out the aromas. The special selection of raw materials as well as the ingenious innovation of the production was passed on to the next generation and constantly improved. First to the son Lazarito in 1937 and then to the son-in-law Giorgio Micca. In 1970s it was Giorgio who launched the famous brand "Sigillo Nero" and started the collaboration with Mike Bongiorno. Together they managed to reach the top of the market.
The management of the Brocchino distillery always remained in the family
After the death of his father in 1996, the management of the distillery was taken over by Carlo Micca Bocchino with the support of his daughters Miranda and Marta. They too have in them the enthusiasm and the will to continue the tradition of one of the best grappas in Italy.
How the grappas are produced at Bocchino and achieve their uniqueness
At the Bocchino winery, there is one more heritage that is passed on: The soil. For the winemakers of Langhe and Monferrato, it is the heart of Piedmont. For more than 100 years, the Bocchino distillery has been dedicated to the selection and distillation of the most renowned marcs of the area. This produces not only high quality grappas, but also unique and refined ones. The marc varieties distilled at Brocchino are harvested in the Cru production area. Each variety has a distinctive aroma and thus helps the distillates to have their own personality. The products at Bocchino are constantly refined and mature in small oak barrels or barriques. This gives them their famous color and unmistakable aroma.
