Bibenda award winning wines

(91)

Bibenda is still known to most veteran Italian wine fans under the name Duemilavini . No matter what the wine guide is now called, the publication, which has been published since 1998, covers over 20,000 wines, making Bibenda one of the absolute giants of the Italian wine evaluation scene alongside Gambero Rosso and I Vini di Veronelli.

Bibenda - wine guide and instance of Italian sommeliers

The Bibenda Vini d'Italia wine guide covers over 20,000 wines, explores regions and wineries in detail, provides detailed tasting notes and reveals culinary recommendations. Although the published wine guide has been out since 1998, Bibenda has been active since 1965 in contributing to the improvement and dissemination of wine and food culture. In fact, the origin of Bibenda lies in the Italian Sommelier Association of Rome. An association of wine enthusiasts and sommeliers. In addition to publishing the Bibenda wine guide, the association offers courses and events related to Italian wine, grappa and oils. For those who want to develop their skills in sommelier and Italian food culture, Bibenda offers detailed teaching material. Since 2016, Bibenda has appeared only in digital form on its website or via app.

How does Bibenda rate?

It is evaluated according to a strict 100-point scheme, with the rating then being translated into grappoli - "grapes." The highest award of the trade magazine is therefore Cinque Grappoli, which only absolute top wines receive. Of the approximately 20,000 wines that find their way into the wine guide each year, only about 400 to 500 wines receive the coveted award.

Grappoli di Bibenda

Leafing through the wine guide, one quickly discovers the grapes scattered everywhere. Already the color of the grape gives the reader information about the type of wine. Green grapes stand for white wines, pink grapes for rosé, red grapes for red wine and light blue grapes stand for grappa. The emphasis at Bibenda is clearly on red wines.

What do the points at Bibenda mean?

  • 100 to 91 points - excellent top wines/ 5 grapes
  • 90 to 85 points - high level and excellent value / 4 grapes
  • 84 to 80 points - good quality and finesse / 3 grapes
  • 79 to 74 points - medium level and pleasant finish / 2 grapes
Other symbols in the Bibenda wine guide

The Cinque Grappoli of Bibenda alone is a prestigious award for winemakers and wineries. About 400 to 500 Italian wines have the pleasure of boasting the 5 grapes. But it goes even higher. In each issue, the Wine Guide presents a Best of list with the 10 best wines of the year from Italy. With this, a wine truly puts on its crown - because the symbol that Bibenda gives to the absolute top wines is precisely a crown

Far away, a bottle indicates the shelf life. If the bottle stands upright, the wine should be drunk preferably in the next 2 years. If the bottle stands at a slight angle, the wine offers optimal drinking pleasure in the next 3 to 5 years. If the bottle is horizontal, the wine should be stored in the same way and opened only in 5 years or later.
