The Bersano winery was born at the beginning of the 20th century in Nice Monferrato, in the heart of the production area of Barbera d'Asti.
Bersano Winery - How it all began
in 1935 Arturo Bersano became cellar master in what had been a family-run business until then. He focused on the three great vines of Piedmont:
Barbera
Nebbiolo and
Bracchetto.
His work in the cellar and in the vineyards and his inexhaustible pioneering and innovative spirit, as well as his inspiration, quickly paid off, producing quality wines that soon became the distinctive feature of the winery. True to Arturo Bersano motto:
"If you want to drink well, get yourself a vineyard"
The tradition continues at Bersano
For almost thirty years the Massimelli and Soave families have managed the company, following Arturo Bersano's example: a great role is played by the Cascine, where quality grapes are produced, modern but without losing sight of tradition. Today the Bersano wine company is one of the most important producers in Piedmont.
In the wine cellar
Even if almost a century has passed and the possibilities of winemaking techniques have modernized, Bersano is aware that the "ways" and "times" of winemaking have not changed. Starting from the gentle pressing, through fermentation and aging, tradition is respected in every step. Particular attention is paid to aging in wood, because that is what makes Bersano wines so unique.
The barrels
Bersano works with large barrels of Slavonian oak and tonneaux of French oak from Allier. Thanks to the optimal temperature and humidity in the cellar, the wines can round off in optimal conditions in the cellar.
